November 1 Grantee Evening

We have had another inspirational evening as we honoured a further 7 grantees and one re-grant and welcomed them into the Inspire Family.

They all spoke well about their journey and their gratitude to their families and to the foundation for helping them get to where they were and reach higher pinnacles.

The grantees were:

  • Alex Dawson – Athletics
  • Jody Jansen van Vuuren – Shooting
  • Brad Palatchie – Shooting
  • Eleanor Grigg – Music
  • Jonty Zydenbos – Music
  • Kodi Rassmussen, - Music
  • Libby Holdaway – Music
  • and a re-grant to Quinn Udy – Squash.

Our guest speaker was Prof, Brendon Bradley who hails from Marlborough and is now based in Canterbury. Brendon is an Earthquake engineer and was involved in the set up of Quake CORE following the Christchurch earthquake. His thought-provoking speech kept us entertained, and he spoke about how is in involved in making our community more resilient through better buildings to withstand earthquakes and what inspires him – disruptive technology. It gave us much to ponder on.

Our ambassador, Joseph Sullivan, was also in attendance to help give out our grants and meet our grantees, and we were honoured to have Barry Maister with us. Barry had recently been given the IOC’s highest honour – the Olympic Medal for Services to the Olympic Movement. These awards are very rarely given, and it couldn’t be more deserved – congratulations Barry.

Now we look forward to watching the successes of these extraordinary Marlburians while we prepare for our next evening in May 2019.
